Classification

Biostimulants are neither plant protection products nor conventional fertilizers. They act more like soil amendments or plant aids. Unlike traditional fertilizers, biostimulants are defined by their mode of action rather than by a dose–response relationship of their ingredients.

EU Placement on the Market

In Germany, the distributor holds the guarantee position and is solely responsible for ensuring the product complies with national fertilizer legislation. For EU‑wide placement on the market, the EU Fertilising Products Regulation 2019/1009 applies. Biostimulant AN falls under product category PFC 6(B) for plant biostimulants.

Seed Treatment

Seed is considered a developmental stage of the plant and is covered by Article 2 of the Fertilising Products Regulation (EU) 2019/1009. However, if seed is treated with an EU fertilising product or a biostimulant, the regulation no longer applies, as the seed becomes the intended recipient of the fertilising effect.

Organic and Biodynamic Compliance

Biostimulant AN also meets the requirements of biodynamic farming and current EU organic production regulations (e.g., Demeter).
